Imphal, May 25 2022: A combined team of Manipur Police and Assam Rifles arrested five persons with over 2 kilograms of brown sugar in Manipur. A special team of Manipur Police commando of Chakpikarong police station and a column of 43 Assam Rifles conducted a intense frisking yesterday evening where the arrest were made. Five persons were arrested which includes a juvenile along. 186 soap cases containing 2.273 Kg of brown sugar from a inter-village road of Chakpikarong and Gobok .
Team was acting on specific information about illegal transportation of banned drug items along the inter-village road of Chakpikarong and Gobok, the combined team carried out intensified frisking and checking along the inter-village road and arrested five persons who were coming in a Shaktiman truck, sources informed.
The arrested persons have been identified as Seitinthang Haokip (22) of Molcham village, Ngamminlun Guite (25) of Yangoubung village, Seiminlun Guite (24) of Yangoubung village and Doukhosei Mate (35) of Changpol village, Chandel district.
The combined team recovered and seized 186 soap cases which contained brown sugar and weighed 2 Kg and 273 grams (approximately) .
Four mobile phones were also seized from their possession, said the sources. A case has been registered at Chakpikarong police station for taking up necessary legal action against them under ND&PS Act.
On the other hand, a team of Kakching district police recovered 293 gms of heroin (No 4) from a Santro car at Wapokpi Chingol Leikai yesterday evening. Acting on a specific tip-off, a police team was patrolling Sugnu-Wapokpi area when they saw a car speeding away in a suspicious manner.
The police team chased the car and after 30 minutes of hot pursuit, the car was seen pulling up in front of an unknown house at Wapokpi. The house was immediately searched. On checking a Santro car parked inside the premises of the house, 293 gms of Heroin were found concealed under the foot pads of the car. Further, one Wangkhem Sarkar Meitei (47) owner of the house was arrested. Wangkhem Sarkar was handed over to Sugnu police station along with the seized item.
