Alcohol, Petrol and Diesel to become cheaper in Assam

Guwahati: Liquor, petrol and diesel may soon become cheaper as the state government has been contemplating to withdraw all the COVID-19 cess levied on these products.

Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the state government would revise all its economic measures taken during the Covid crisis in February.

“When I will place the vote on account in February, we will revise all the taxation and all the excess cess and tax on liquor, petrol and diesel will be withdrawn,” Sarma informed on Friday.

The state government while hiking the tax on petroleum products in April, it had decided to increase the excise duty on Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) by 25 percent in May.

In Assam, the rate of petrol had gone up by Rs 5.85 per litre after the hike, while the price of diesel shot by Rs 5.43 per litre.
