
Guwahati: A 60 year old woman was mauled to death by a herd of elephant on Tuesday night at Dihing under Digboi Forest Zone in Tinsukia.
The deceased was identified as Girjamani Muddamesti. The incident took place at Shillong Road Area Officer Colony in the residential area of Indian Oil Corporation (Assam Oil Zone).
The 60-year old was attacked by the herd of elephants and was killed brutally. The elephants mauled the body and kept it under their possession for some time.
In a recent incident, an Oil India employee was trampled to death by a herd of wild tuskers on October 16 in the Digboi oil field area.
The deceased, Madhujya Gogoi, was a resident of Bordubi area and was engaged in the IT Department at Oil India Limited Duliajan.
Wild elephants have been creating terror and wreaking havoc in various vulnerable locations in UDRF areas in Tinsukia district.
The human-elephant conflict over a period of time has increased manifold in several areas under Digboi Forest Division.
After such incidents, the presence of the local forest department as well as the forest ranger camp, the utter failure of the department can be seen apparently.
