GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday asked the state’s health department to constitute a medical team comprising PG Diploma doctors of the state and to ensure a mandatory service in Majuli for 90 days for better treatment to the patients in Majuli.
Sonowal directed the state’s principal secretary of health and family welfare Samir Sinha to include gynaecologist, paediatrician, anesthesiologist, etc in the team to provide specialised treatment.
“After a team completes its mandatory stay of 90 days, a new team of doctors comprising of specialists would visit the district for another 90 days period. This facility of treatment by specialist doctors in batches would continue uninterrupted,” said the chief minister’s office (CMO).
Moreover, the chief minister asked senior doctors cum faculty members of Assam Medical College, Jorhat Medical College to alternately visit the island district of Majuli to provide super specialty treatment to the patients.
The CMO informed that the direction was given by Sonowal in the backdrop of the existing health care facilities in Majuli and the state government’s decision to improve gynaecological and paediatric treatment services of the district along with infrastructural up-gradation of the health facilities there.
It was informed that a post-mortem facility would be introduced in Garmur civil hospital of Majuli besides dedicating the two-storied building of civil hospital to the service of the people later this month.
“Other facilities like major and minor operation theatres, x-ray, CT scan, ultrasonography, laboratory facilities, Sick New Born Care (SNBC) Unit would feature in the new building. Moreover, for serious patients there would be separate counters in Assam and Jorhat Medical College and Hospitals in Dibrugarh and Jorhat respectively,” the statement added.
