Darrang: Assam police arrested Congress Leader Rahijuddin Ahmed from Darrang district on Friday for his involvement in drug trade.
Hailing from Kawadanga in Assam’s Darrang, the accused has been identified as Rahijuddin Ahmed who is the president of the Kaliagaon complex of Congress.
As per reports, around 23 packets of unrefined brown sugar, certain unpacked plastic empty containers and various illegitimate items have been regained from the man’s belongings.
Acting on a tip-off, one drug paddler Rahijuddin Ahmed of Kawadanga under Dhula PS was apprehended and recovered total 23.13 grms suspected brown sugar and 11 nos of empty vials. Legal action is being intended.

Meanwhile, police stated that Ahmed had been continuing drug dealings for several years. A case has now been officially registered and an inquiry has already commenced.
Earlier in a major breakthrough against inter-state smugglers and illegal wholesale dealers trading in opium, team Assam Police’s Bordumsa unit in Tinsukia district arrested a drugs kingpin here on Tuesday from along the Assam-Arunachal border area.
