Assam government to maintain Assets Register

Guwahati, 14 Jan 2023: Assam government has taken a policy decision to compile a comprehensive property register that will list all government assets. The register will maintain data regarding the property owned by the state government, including assets under various departments, corporations, local bodies etc.

General Administration Department (GAD) has already initiated necessary steps. According to sources in the GAD, it has come to the notice of the state government that there is no comprehensive record of assets possessed by various government offices, corporations etc., across the state.

As such, it has been decided to compile the property register that will contain data regarding land, buildings, vehicles, furniture, electric and electronic equipment’s ranging from fans, ACs, computers, printers owned by government entities all over Assam.

The sources said that property register will allow the state government in maintaining detail information with the specifics of property and assets that it owns. Additionally it will prevent periodic pilferage of government property from various offices and bring accountability and transparency.

The sources said that the state government is mulling over the option of entrusting the responsibility of listing government property/assets to the Deputy Commissioners of all the districts of the state. Once the register is compiled, the authorities at the state headquarters can access all necessary information with the click of a button.
