In the investigations into Assam Police recruitment scam, police has has arrested 45 persons and seized cash worth over 5 croros from different parts of the Assam.

Guwahati: Over INR 5.28 crore in cash was seized and eight more people were arrested for their alleged involvement in Assam Police recruitment scam, taking the total number of those nabbed to 45, DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said on Saturday.

Raids were carried out in several districts in the last few days to apprehend the main culprit involved in the Assam police recruitment scam and leaking of question paper, he told reporters here. Among the accused, 43 are arrested in direct connection with the case while, 2 of them are arrested with various other charges.

The arrests were made in last 20 days from various parts of Assam mostly from Nalbari. The case have been registered in various districts of Assam like Lakhimpur, Karbi Anglong, Nalbari, Guwahati and crime branch in the state.

Meanwhile, Assam police have also discovered a huge amount of money worth Rs 5 crore and 30 lakhs.

Mahanta in the press meet said, “We have taken all the responsibility of conducting recruitment exams from private agencies, he said, adding that “we however may have to hire someone for technical support.”

“Our prime objective is to find out the person who leaked the paper. We are leaving no stone unturned for achieving it. So far, we have arrested 45 people in five cases registered in the scam,” Mahanta said.

Police recovered INR 3.4 crore in cash from Bongaigaon, INR 1.7 crore from Barpeta, INR 3 lakh from Chirang and INR 15 lakh from another place in the last 24 hours, the DGP said.

The paper leak, money trade, the process and operation – everything is being investigated said Mahanta.

The DGP also said that ADGP GP Singh is smoothly conducting the investigating and more arrests are to be made in the coming days.

CID Inspector General Surendra Kumar said a huge amount of documents and digital evidence have been collected during the investigation, and the department is trying to prepare chargesheets for filing it within the stipulated period of 90 days.

“We have inducted two more members in the investigation team. We now have three DSPs, three inspectors and several technical experts in the group,” he said.

Retired Assam DIG P K Dutta, a prime accused in the police recruitment examination paper leak, was arrested on Wednesday and remanded to police custody for six days.
