Imphal, October 19 2020: Chief Minister N Biren today declared that BJP would support Independent candidate Abdul Nasir in the upcoming by-election of Lilong AC. He was addressing an election rally of Abdul Nasir held today at Lilong. He said that the BJP-led coalition Government might have collapsed on two occasions and the BJP candidate might not have won the State’s lone Rajya Sabha seat had some Congress MLAs not resigned and come to the aid of the Government.

Biren stated that he is fully aware of the immense roles played by ex-Congress MLAs Abdul Nasir, O Henry, O Lukhoi and Paonam Brojen in saving the Government.
He said, BJP is not fielding any candidate in Lilong AC as an acknowledgement to the sacrifice made by Abdul Nasir.

He also appreciated the people of Lilong for electing a courageous man like Abdul Nasir and appealed the gathering to respect the decision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah not to give BJP ticket to any candidate in Lilong AC. He said, BJP central leadsers took the decision in recognition of Nasir’s contribution in saving the BJP-led Government in Manipur.
Chief Minister asked what the Opposition party did for the minorities when they were in power for 15 years.
He asked, what has the Congress Government did to protect the people of Lilong AC and their paddy fields which were ravaged by floods every year?
Chief Minister Biren claimed that the BJP Government took the initiative of constructing houses for those people of Lilong AC who were rendered homeless by floods.
After identification of needy people through the Go to Village campaign, the BJP-led Government had extended aid to 2690 families in addition to delivering the benefits of CMHT to a large number of people, Biren said.
Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative to eradicate poverty from the country, the BJP-led Government has already started giving loans to artisans, craftsmen and entrepreneurs, said the Chief Minister.
Education Minister S Rajen said that one Ministerial berth is being kept unoccupied so that the same can be allotted to an MLA elected from the by-elections.
