Guwahati: After a tensed situation prevailed in the 3-Srirampur constituency in Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), the Assam State Election Commission has announced re-polling on Friday from 7:30 am.
The voting in the 3-Srirampur constituency is underway and 46.72% of voters has turned out till 1.30 pm.
Cahoes erupted after the final phase of BTC election came to an end on Thursday in the Srirampur constituency due to unsealed ballot drop box leading to demand of fresh voting in the constituency by political parties.
In an order by the sub-divisional officer (Civil) of Gossaigaon, it is stated that, “The proposal for fresh Poll in the following Polling Station of 3-Srirampur (Non-ST) BTC Constituency has been accepted by the Assam State Election Commission.”
“Accordingly, fresh Poll will be held on December 11 from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. You are requested to take necessary action for appointment of Polling Agent for the Polling Station of 36, Srirampur High School (R/S)”, the order further stated.
The counting of the votes for the polling station will take place at SDO (Civil)’s office, Gossaigaon on December 12, 2020.
Meanwhile, some people witnessed that the presiding officer of the Srirampur constituency, the voting which took place at the Srirampur High School has opened the ballot box. He was attacked by the people suspecting that he has messed the ballot papers with some party.
However, the political parties urged the election commission to conduct repoll in the constituency and as per the request, the repoll has been allowed.
