Imphal, August 07 2022: After the NH-2, Imphal-Dimapur blockade by the All Tribal Student’s Union Manipur(ATSUM), 14 different organisations have threatened to launch counter economic blockade from 8 August. The organisation said that if the ongoing NH-2, Imphal-Dimapur blockade called by ATSUM is not lifted by Sunday midnight, they will go ahead with the counter blockade.
Speaking to media persons today on behalf of the 14 organisations, the Youth Development Organisation (YDO), Phougakchao Ikhai Awang Leikai general secretary said that the driver of the vehicle which was set ablaze yesterday should come out in public and give a detailed account of the incident.
The driver should testify his allegation that the van was set ablaze by men who spoke Meiteilon, the general secretary, said. The police too should investigate the incident and establish the facts, he said.
In retaliation to the burning of the Eeco van, a car (Swift) in which one man and two women were travelling was set afire by some masked men at Kaprang, Churachandpur district.
These two incidents created a communally tense situation, the YDO general secretary urged the State Government to resolve the matter at the earliest.
Earlier today, a meeting was held among representatives of Torbung GP Meira Paibi Lup, SKL, KKL, Salaicha Pibarel Punsi Marup, SYDOP, YDO, LAVA, TASA, SWC, YDC, Brothers’ United Torbung, YSDO, Ibudhou Thougalloi Youth Development Organisation and JAC Tidim Road.
On the other hand, the Tammi Chingmi Peace Committee which was constituted yesterday to resolve the crisis arising out of the burning of two vehicles held a meeting at 10 am today at Phougakchao Ikhai police station in the presence of the Bishnupur DC and the Bishnupur SP.
