With Dhubri Medical college, Assam has 1,200 MBBS seats now

GUWAHATI: National Medical Commission(NMC) has recently approved the Dhubri Medical College as the ninth medical college of the state under Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences. The NMC approved 100 MBBS seats for the Dhubri Medical College.

With the addition of 100 more MBBS seats to be offered in the Dhubri Medical College, the total number of seats in Assam now stands at 1,200.

Meanwhile, the Dhubri Medical College will start classes from this academic session. The OPD (Outdoor Patients Department) service of the college has been going on.

According to Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta , there are more medical colleges like Nalbari Medical College and Kokrajhar Medical College are in the pipelines for the next academic year which are likely to get NMC approval.

Assam has 200 MBBS seats each in GMCH (Gauhati Medical College & Hospital) and AMC (Assam Medical College), 125 seats each in SMC (Silchar Medical College), Jorhat Medical College, Tezpur Medical College and Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College in Barpeta. Diphu Medical College and Lakhimpur Medical College have 100 MBBS seats each.

Lakhimpur Medical College got NMC approval last year. MBBS classes are going on in the medical institute.
