Nambol, October 26 2020: Councillor of Nambol Municipal Council Ward No 4, has expressed regret over the ‘irresponsible act’ of the Chairperson of the Nambol Municipal Council who allegedly distributed street lighting systems meant for Ward Number 4 to unknown persons.
Councillor said that of the 100 LED solar street lighting systems allocated by the State Government through MANIREDA, 15 were allotted to Ward No 4 .
But when approached by local club volunteers, the Chairperson without any regret stated that the lighting systems have already been given to persons who were neither related to Municipal Council nor local clubs, she said while questioning how a person at an official post could indulged in such carelessness. The act is a clear insult to the Ward Councillor and utter disrespect and deprivation of rights of the ward’s people, she said.
‘Siphoning’ of items meant for the welfare of the people is unexpected from a people’s representative, the Councillor said while adding that concerned authorities will be approached against the misconduct and recklessness on the part of the Chairperson.
President of Nambol Youth Club and Library, K Gouramahon narrated how the misconduct was revealed. He said that the club members enquired the Chairperson about the lighting systems after the ward Councillor informed them.
The Chairperson apprised the members that the systems have been handed over to mandal president but the latter when contacted through phone denied receiving any street lighting system, he said.
Such differences in replies have created a big confusion , he said adding that it will be wise for all concerned not to play politics in the matter and hand over the said 15 street light systems to the Ward people.
Vice president of the club, Kh Megha and social worker Ch Nabakumar also attended the press meet.
