Imphal, September 22, 2020: Manipur Chief Minister , Shri N Biren Singh and Prof Tiken, President of Bhartiya Janata Party(BJP), Manipur Pradesh has returned to Imphal after a day trip to New Delhi.
Shri Jay Panda, BJP National Vice-President and Rajat Sethi, Advisor to CM also accompanied them to Imphal.
According to sources, Biren Singh and Prof Tiken met several central leaders including Ram Madhav, BL Santosh, National President JP Nadda as soon as they landed in Delhi yesterday. Both the Manipur leaders were seeking consent of the BJP central leaders before finalizing the reshuffle of BJP led state government.
According to a reliable source, major cabinet reshuffle of the BJP led coalition government is expected and swearing-in ceremony is likely to be tomorrow.
In order to accommodate the reshuffle, 4 senior Cabinet Ministers will be asked to resign from the ministry. They will be replace by new faces (first time MLAs). Among 4 ministers that will be asked to resign includes 3 Cabinet Ministers from BJP and 1 from NPP out of the 4 NPP ministers. They are likely to be replaced by 2 BJP MLAs and 2 more ministers are likely to be awarded to the Ex-MLAs from Congress who resigned ahead of the Trust Motion vote moved by BJP led coalition.
It is also speculated that an expelled Congress MLA, now an unattached member of the house may also be appointed as Speaker of the Legislature Assembly whereas current Speaker Shri Y Khemchand may be inducted into Ministry.
Currently 13 seats of the State Legislative Assembly are lying vacant after disqualifications and resignation from both BJP and Congress MLAs. In run up to the Rajya Sabha elections and trust vote, several congress MLAs resigned and some were disqualified. 3 BJP MLAs also resigned prior to Rajya Sabha elections.
It is also expected that Election Commission is likely to announced the poll dates for 5 Assembly Constituencies this week. Election model code of conduct will soon be enforce.
