Imphal, August 10 2022: The anti smuggling team of Customs Division, Imphal seized 11.454 kg of gold worth around Rs 6 crore today. In Manipur, gold smuggling cases are on the rise with smuggled yellow metal from Myanmar.

The customs officials had detained an Eeco van without registration number yesterday at around 7.45 pm while checking vehicles at Thamnapokpi based upon specific information about gold smuggling in the area. The team took the vehicle to the office of Customs Division Imphal for thorough search for smuggled gold.
During a thorough search of the vehicle , the team found 69 gold biscuits concealed in the vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle Md Wahidur Rahman, s/o Md Habibu Rahman of Lilong Haoreibi Mayai Leikai and two other passengers were also apprehended by the team.
The value of the gold biscuits and the seized vehicle is estimated to be around Rs 6,02,96,644/- (Rs six crore, two lakh, ninety six thousand, six hundred forty four only) today.
