Imphal, February 06 2021: Federation of Government College Teachers’ Associations (FEGOCTA), Manipur has made it clear that if their demand for 7th Pay is not met by the Government, they may resort to class boycott.
Speaking to reporters during a sit-in cum meeting of college teachers at DM College of Science today, Dr N Somorendro Singh, general secretary FEGOCTA, said the meeting is being organised to discuss the follow up actions as the Government has been silent on the matter even after 7 days of protest.
Today’s sit-in protest was the 8th day of the agitation.
He added that the demands being made by FEGOCTA is not random but is as per the National policy and norms of the 7th UGC pay which was introduced 3 years ago.
The State Government had also approved the 7th UGC for college teachers 6 months back but it has not been implemented so far even after numerous requests.
College teachers are the only group of employees who has been left out of the 7th UGC Pay, while all other employees under various departments are already enjoying the new pay, he said at the meeting.
FEGOCTA requested the Government to implement the new pay so that all the teachers can resume normal duties.
It is noteworthy that FEGOCTA had called off its decision to boycott classes in the interest of the students and unanimously decided to take up democratic form of protest.
