Kalapahar resident abducted for ransom rescued

Kangpokpi, Feb 19, 2021: Tikaram Rizal, a resident of Kalapahar in Kangpokpi district of Manipur who was abducted by 4 armed persons has been rescued. One person suspected to be involved in his abduction was also apprehended by police.

49 year old Tikaram Rizal of Kalapahar Bazar under Kangpokpi Police Station was abducted on February 16 evening at by unknown armed miscreants with a ransom amount of Rs 20 lakh.

Enraged residents of Kalapahar had also imposed a bandh along National Highway 2 at Kalapahar yesterday demanding the safe release of Tikaram.

A joint action committee was immediately formed demanding the safe release of Tikaram.

Convener of the JAC, Vigyan Koirala said that after the prolonged efforts of security forces involving 38 Assam Rifles, Manipur Police and Commandos, the abducted Tikaram Rizal was rescued today.

Vigyan Koirala conveyed his sincere appreciation and gratitude to IGP Lunseh Kipgen, IPS; ADGP Ashutosh Sinha, IPS; SP Kangpokpi, PG Singsit, IPS; OC Kangpokpi, Maibam Khogen; CO 38 Assam Rifles,Colonel Hemchand Singh and the district administration of Kangpokpi for their humanitarian and tireless efforts.

He also expressed profound gratitude to all CSOs of the Kuki and Gorkha community for their vital role in rescuing the abducted person.

The JAC further urged the State Government and authorities concerned to arrest the culprits at the earliest and award befitting punishment to all those involved.

Narrating his ordeal, Tikaram Rizal (49), s/o Bhanu Bhakta Rizal said that three unknown face masked men came to his residence on February 16 evening and inquired the whereabouts of his brother-in-law Gopilal Chauhan.

When they could not find him, they blindfolded and took him away. “The kidnappers were talking in Kuki dialect among them and talked in Manipuri with me.

They told me that earlier we went to your sister’s shop and put a monetary demand verbally but your brother-in-law asked us to give in our letterhead if we are a genuine organization”, Tikaram narrated.

The All Manipur Gorkha Students’ Union also conveyed its sincere appreciation and gratitude to all the security forces and CSOs involved in the efforts to rescue Tikaram Rizal.
