Imphal, Dec 12, 2020: Director of Manipur Health Services Dr K Rajo has informed that government will soon regulate the COVID-19 testing fees in the state. He said that a specific rate for COVID-19 testing in the state will be finalised soon.
Disclosing this during weekly briefing about Covid-19 status in the state Friday, Dr Rajo conceded that some private hospitals and clinics fix COVID-19 testing fees at their whims and fancy. While revealing that disparity on charges levied by private hospitals and clinics on COVID-19 testing was discussed by convening a meet, Dr Rajo informed media persons during the press briefing organised by directorate of health services and national health mission at medical directorate office that COVID-19 testing from the government side are being done at JNIMS, RIMS and district hospitals.
While RT PCR are done at JNIMS and RIMS only, RAT is done at other healthcare centres but some private hospitals and clinics are found charging fees at their own will, he said adding that a survey in this regard has been conducted and found disparity in test rate.
Testing fees at some private hospitals and clinics are very high but principal secretary (health & family welfare) convened a meet and discussed about it, he said adding that a specific rate would be fixed soon. Treatment of non-Covid patients is being done at government hospitals and it is not mandatory for COVID-19 testing for all the patients before giving treatment. However, patients showing symptoms are conducted COVID-19 test, he said adding that private hospitals and clinics make COVID-19 test mandatory before giving treatment.
