Following the incessant rains , a massive landslide in Manipur has cut off the road connectivity between Senapati and Lairouching along the National Highway-2
The landslide occurred at Khongnem Thana in Senapati District on Friday and caused the sinking of a loaded truck at around 5.30 pm, according to reports. Locals say that about 40-50 meters length and 30 meter depth depression was caused in the damaged portion of the road. Khongnem Thana is situated about 12 km from Senapati Police Station.
The Senapati District Students Association and Maram Students Union (MKS) have been extending assistance to stranded passengers and vehicles since Friday night, the reports stated.
As the rains continued and the National Highway-2 remained cut off, people have been advised against travelling on NH2.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department, the Earth Sciences Ministry and the Regional Meteorological Department, in a release on Friday, had alerted heavy rainfall in North-Eastern region of India for the next 48 hours. The release stated isolated heavy rainfall on October 23-26 in Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Tripura

On Friday, water level of several major rivers in Imphal valley area rose above the warning level as heavy rains lashed several parts of Manipur.
According to the IFCD, the water level in Imphal River reached 786.00 metre which is beyond the warning level of 785.900 metre, Nambul river at 781.300 metre against the 781.175 metre of warning level and Nambol River was flowing at 773.175 metre level against the warning level of 772.700 metre, as per reports.
The water level of Irilbung River reached 781.250 metre and its warning level is 786.700 metre, Lilong River at 778.650 metre against the warning level of 780.350 metre and Thoubal River with 774.00 metre and warning level is 778.915 metre, the control room informed.
