Massive manhunt after KNO cadre killed at Moreh. 2 arrested with arms and ammunition

Moreh, January 25 2021: Manipur Police commando has been conducting massive search operation in suspected hideout areas where the cadres of UKLF may take shelter in connection with the assassination case of KNO DC Thangminlen Guite at Moreh.

A combined team of Tengnoupal district police arrested two persons from Moreh Ward No 7 along with assorted arms and ammunition after a search operation this morning.

According to police reports, the combined team conducted a search operation from 5:50 am till 6:45 am at the house of one suspect Mangvung Thongminlun Haokip (31), son of Mangvung Onk- holet Haokip of Gamnom Village Moreh but presently living at Chavangphai village Moreh Ward No. 7.

During the operation, two pistols with two magazines, one single barrel gun, one 0.22 rifle, one live ammunition of AK-47, 7.65 ammunition-18 in number, 20 empty cases of 7.65 mm ammunition, 34 live ammunition of 12 bore gun and 4 mobile phones were recovered from the house, he informed.

Manglimat Lhungdim (25) from Mollum village, Churachandpur, who was currently residing at Moreh Ward No 7 and house owner, Thangminlun Haokip (31) were also arrested from the spot and handed over to Moreh police station for further legal proceedings along with the seized arms and ammunition, the SP continued.

KNO/KNA Press Release on UKLF

KNO/KNA in a press release issued by its Under Secretary, Information & Publicity Stephen Kuki stated that armed UKLF cadres are moving in and around Moreh freely.

The release said that despite most untoward incident of the assassination of KNA’s DC Tactical Hqrs Thangminlen Guite on Saturday, UKLF cadres in civil dress and fully armed continue to move freely in the vicinity of Moreh town and is firing during night since the last two days, however KNA is maintaining maximum restraint despite the killing of their Tactical Hqrs DC.

The release further stated that the cadres of UKLF have been sheltering around S Moljol, Chavangphai, Canaan Veng, Yangnoi and ST Mollenphai Village. This highly precarious situation needs to be addressed by the security forces without ambiguity in order to prevent escalation that will potentially result in an outbreak of direct confrontation, the release states.

The release stated that in the interest of peace, it is requesting the security forces to impress upon UKLF, signatory of SoO, to move out of Moreh as soon as possible
