Imphal, December 16 2020: The High Court of Manipur has granted anticipatory bail to former Chief Minister of Manipur Okram Ibobi in connection with the MDS scam .
A single bench of the High Court of Justice MV Muralidaran heard the anticipatory bail Ibobi filed in November 2020 and granted the anticipatory bail on the condition that he shall appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) when asked in connection with the investigation against him. He has been directed not leave the State without prior permission of the Court, said the Justice.
Enforcement Directorate is investigating an alleged money laundering case involving Manipur Development Society.
In 2019, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had registered cases against ex-CM O Ibobi, former Project Director of MDS Y Ningthem, former Chief Secretaries DS Poonia, PC Lawmkunga and O Nabakishore.
It was alleged that between June 30, 2009 and July 6, 2017, they had misappropriated Government funds worth Rs 332 crore out of a total amount of Rs 518 crore which were given for development projects and works in Manipur.
