Imphal, May 18 2022: Manipur Police arrested a NSCN-IM cadre allegedly involved in Khoupum ambush in 2016. The team of Bishnupur district police arrested the NSCN-IM at NTPC Gate, Ningthoukhong under the jurisdiction of Bishnupur district police. The arrested NSCN-IM cadre was allegedly involved in a 2015 ambush at Khoupum which killed one jawan of the Gorkha Rifles.
The Manipur police team led by Bishnupur police officer in-charge Shaktishen rushed to Ningthoukhong on receiving inputs about the presence of some underground cadres there.
Saying that the team managed to arrest one active member of NSCN-IM at around 11.30 am, the sources continued that the arrested person has been identified as Jacob Newmai (29), of Langmei (Tamei) village, Tamenglong district.
Arrested NSCN-IM cadre disclosed that he was involved in various ambushes which targeted security forces including the one that took place at Khoupum in 2015. The NSCN (IM) cadre has been handed over to Bishnupur police station.
PREPAK PRO cadre arrested
In a separate operation, a team of Imphal East police arrested an active member of banned outfit PREPAK (Pro) who allegedly planted bombs in different parts of Imphal from Kongpal Iranpham Thongkhong on May 16 .
The cadre has been identified as Mangdengbam Shamu Singh alias Thoiba, of Kongpal Khongkham Leikai, Imphal East district
As per police, Shamu joined the outfit in 2014 through one Waikhom Lamjingba alias Tomba of PREPAK (Pro) and he was involved in planting IEDs in Imphal with one of his associates namely Yamba of the outfit. He has been handed over to Porompat police station.
