Imphal, May 27 2022: All Manipur Brahmin Organization has asked a talk show panellist Potsangbam Sonamani to clarify over his derogatory remarks against the brahmins and followers of Gaudiya Vaishnav religion.
Potsangbam Sonamani, a retired cop from Nagaland Police was participating in a TV show called “MANUNG HUTNA” aired by the local Manipur Channel “Impact TV”. The particular show “MANUNG HUTNA” which was aired on Saturday May 21, 2022 at 1710 hours. The topic of discussion for the particular episode was ” RECRUITMENT IN COLD STORAGE, WHY?”. The panellist Sonamani was commenting over the delay in announcing results of the various recruitment’s to fill the vacant post in the Manipur government department and the alleged corruption. During the course of the discussion, he drew an analogy to the ancient culture of “bamon da siddha thinba” loosely translated as “practice of offerings to brahmins (priest) for puja in temples” by the people following Hindu religion.

During the course of the talk show aired on May 21, 2022 between 17:10:24 and 17:10:46 (time format hh:mm:ss) panellist made the particular comments. Panellist said “like the age old tradition among mad followers of Hindu religion where people carry offerings(siddha) to the brahmins (priest) serving at the temples” He also said “the brahmins(priest) force people/followers to bring offerings for their own benefit”. He asked if the delay is because of similar reason where officials are waiting for the similar “offerings” ?
The President of All Manipur Brahmin Organisation, Kakchingtabam Saratchandra has demanded an apology from Potsangbam Sonamani within a week for his statement. The particular statement was used as an analogy in connection with the pending result of IRB recruitment however it was a biased one portraying the Brahmins in poor light and derogatory in nature.
Stating that such statements may invoke communal hatred , he demanded an apology from P Sonamani for his statement within a week and urged him to refrain from making such statements in future.
