Imphal, June 03 2022: The just concluded Shirui Lily Festival 2022 is turning to be a major success per the data received from the Manipur Tourism department. The Shirui Lily festival is setting a new benchmark in terms of the tourist footfall and revenue generation from the short 4 day event. The recently concluded Shirui Lily Festival has broken new grounds, showcasing the immense potential to promote tourism in Manipur.
The 4-day Shirui Lily Festival 2022 recorded a footfall of 2.19 lakh(219,000) tourists and generated an estimated INR14.36 crore of revenue as against an investment of just INR4.5 crore.

As per a data available with the Tourism Department, Government of Manipur and other sources, an estimated 2.19 lakh tourists including international tourist attended the festival. Shirui Lily Festival 2022 was a 4 days event which begun on May 25 and ended on May 28. Shirui Lily Festival 2022 was held in different venues to promote Manipur culture and Shirui Lily.
An estimated revenue of Rs 14.36 crore was generated during the 4 day Shirui Lily Festival 2022. Apart from the State collecting a considerable revenue, the festival, as per the data, also provided a platform to promote the local economy as many local people were able to sale different products during the 4-day festival.
Maximum number of tourists attended the festival on the last day (May 28) which also saw a captivating performance from UK based progressive metal band Monuments with a record attendance of more than one lakh people.
The other big attraction was the Miss Shirui Lily contest where a number of young damsels vied for the coveted crown. The Miss Shirui Lily pageant was organised by the 7 Sisters Foundation under the Shirui Lily Festival 2022 Entertainment Sub-Committee. The winner of the Miss Shirui Lily pageant, Levin Luithui was also granted a wild card entry in the National finals of the Rubaru Miss India Elite beauty pageant apart from winning a cash prize of Rs 3 lakh.
On an average, a tourist spent about Rs 650 per day and events such as Shirock and adventure sports were the favourite among the tourists.
Despite the huge footfalls, some of the youth who attended the festival claimed that the number of international and domestic tourists attendance in this year’s festival was lesser as compared to previous editions in 2017, 2018 and 2019 .
The festival started in 2017 . They also expressed the need to incorporate more exciting events and improve the infrastructure so as to attract more tourists in the future editions of the Shirui Lily Festival.
Homestay arrangements were made by the District Administration for the 4th Shirui Lily Festival from 25-28 May 2022.The homestay facilities were in Ukhrul district headquarters, Langdang and Shirui village.

Shirui Lily is the State Flower of Manipur. Known to the locals as Timrawon, this rare flower plant is found only in the upper reaches of the Shirui Peak, locally called Shirui Kashong in the Ukhrul district of Manipur, India, at an elevation of 1,730–2,590 metres (5,680–8,500 ft) above sea level. It is located near the boundary of Myanmar to the east, Shirui village in the west, Choithar village in the south and Sihai village in the north.
Shirui Lily flower is a unique and rare species of terrestrial lily grown naturally, and only found in Shirui peak in Ukhrul, Manipur. This seasonal flower, which blooms in Summer, is famous because it cannot be transplanted elsewhere in the world despite numerous attempts made by researchers and scientists. Hence the name, Shirui Lily.
