Shillong: Days after Meghalaya government allowed movement of heavy vehicles through the city of Shillong, a 16-wheeler Truck turned turtle in Shillong . The accident happened in the Mawblei area under Madanrting police station near the SBI Madanrting branch of Shillong.
The accident created a major trafic jam causing lot of inconvenience to movement of vehicles in the area.
Mawlei is the entry point to Shillong from Guwahati side and sees a lot of traffic on any given day. The accident of such a huge vehicle has simply added to the woes of commuters in the stretch.
On October 29, the district administration had allowed all heavy vehicles- trucks and buses to pass through Shillong city due to poor condition of roads on stretch around Dwar Ksuid near Umroi Bridge.
The government decided to allow heavy vehicles through Shillong to avoid any accident. Only empty trucks and buses are allowed to ply on the Umroi bridge. Heavy vehicles have been allowed to ply after 9pm till 5 am through Shillong city.
