GUWAHATI: Paresh Baruh led Ulfa (Independent)faction on Monday came down heavily on the BJP led state government for allowing the Durga Puja celebration in ‘almost’ full fervour amidst the global pandemic of Coronavirus.
The faction’s chief Paresh Baruah in an email statement on Monday alleged that the state government which has not allowed any other festivities including Assam’s prime festival of Bihu has categorically allowed celebrating Durga Puja.
ULFA(I) said “It’s a clear example of BJP’s attempt to polarise the Assamese society. At a time when Covid 19 has impacted the state’s education, economy and all other aspects; the BJP led state government has mocked the people of Assam by allowing Durga puja celebration,” Baruah said.
On Monday, Durga Puja festivities ended. The state government though had issued multiple guidelines for public and Durga puja committees to adhere to Covid19 protocols strictly; in several places, social distancing and wearing of masks were seen missing. Large crowds also turned up in several puja pandals in the city.
