Guwahati, Oct 27,2020:  The prime counter-insurgency strategy-making body for Assam, Unified Command, reviewed the security situation in Assam on Tuesday in Tezpur. This is coming in with ongoing inter-state border tension between Assam-Mizoram and the state heading for Bodoaland Territorial Council (BTC) elections in December,

The Operational Group meeting chaired by Lt Gen Shantanu Dayal, Gajraj Corps and was attended by the Additional Chief Secretary, Assam Jishnu Barua, DGP Assam, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta and other important functionaries of Army, state administration and para-military forces including representatives of BSF, CRPF and SSB.

“In the meeting, a review of the prevailing security situation in the entire North East and Assam, in particular, was carried out. The meeting also emphasised the need for proactive measures to avoid any adverse law and order situation in the wake of forthcoming events like State and BTR elections and Republic Day celebrations,” said Lt Col P Khongsai, Public Relation Officer (Defence) Guwahati.

Aspects of Intelligence, law and order, counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations and social media were deliberated at length and measures coordinated to ensure a secure environment in the state.

The operational group has been responsible for formulating and streamlining counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism at the operational and tactical levels.
